Well it was first planned for early October, then early November and finally it was actually held in late October! The original plan was to run 7 home-based engines and 1-visitor. Unfortunately the visitor became unavailable and due to the colder weather we decided that we might tone the event down a little.(In turns of the amount of locomotives used at least). We then decided on 8-home based engines but this was,in the end, reduced to 6-home based engines. However the day went off very well and in the video we see the first few hours of train operations. The following locomotives took part:-1)ex-LMS Black 5(MT) 45156 "Ayrshire Yeomanry"2)LMS Princess Coronation Class 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland"3)ex-GWR King Class 6009 "King Charles II"4)ex-GWR 0-6-0 57XX Pannier No57755)ex-GWR 2-6-2 45XX Small Prairie No45606)ex-SR 4-6-2 Battle of Britain 34051 "Winston Churchill"It was also planned to run "Derwent Grange" & Mogul No5328.However,6862 was undergoing a Boiler Washout and 5328 was undergoing her yearly boiler inspection. The sheds were open to the public however where the following engines could be seen today:-4-6-0 LNER B12 8578 "Prince Palatine"0-6-0 87XX Pannier No87510-6-0 94XX Pannier No94000-4-0 Side Tank No9 "Belle"0-4-0 American Side Tank No2560-6-0 Class 08 Diesel ShunterThe next video may revolve around a more festive event! We don't think we'll be making another vid before late November/early December as we have little time on our hands at the moment with one commitment and another! But at least ONE more video will be made before the end of 2008. (More than likely this will feature Black 5 No45156 on Santa Special duty!). Oh well, enjoy this one for now! :D

The Saturday of the 2008 Autumn Steam Gala at the West Somerset Railway (Saturday 4th October), which ran from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th October 2008.This event was a mile stone for so many people. Southern Railways 4-6-2 West Country Class 34046 'Braunton' entered service after an 11 year Restoration to full Mainline Working order, in a 'Rebuilt' state, which was carried out at the West Somerset Railway Assocation's works at Williton. The Souvenir Programme for this event, for the first time was in colour and showed an artistict view of 34046 in the Morning with the words 'WEST COUNTRY SUNRISE' down at the bottom of the page.Guests for this gala were - West Country Class 34007 'Wadebridge' which is owned by 34007 'Wadebridge' Locomotive Ltd. and based at the Mid-Hants Railway (or Watercress Line), and she is in the 'Original/Unrebuilt' design of the West Countries as 34046 is a 'Rebuilt' verison. Also visiting was USA 2-8-0 S160 Class 5197 which is usually based at the Churnet Valley Railway. A GER loco, GER 0-6-2T N7 Class 69621 usully based at the North Norfolk Railway and sadly doesn't feature in this video as she was on Norton Fitzwarren shuttles all day along with 5553. The Autumn Steam Gala 2008 had something special because it had the return of 34046 'Braunton' who was host of the gala and today was the last day.We start off with 34046 and 34007 at leigh croft with a train bound for Bishops Lydeard however with all the steam you can't see 34007 and also you won't see much off her cause the place was overgrown so i could not go to my normal place. Then we see 5553 Drifting down the hill with a train for Minehead at Leigh Bridge and we then go to leigh woods level crossing where 3850 appears from behind the trees with a train to Bishops Lydeard and we then see 69621 with a train to minehead at leigh wood level crossing. Finally turn up the volume for this one!we see S160 '5197' powering up the hill at Roebuck gate with a train to Bishops Lydeard.Engines in the video are -SR 4-6-2 no 34046 Braunton SR 4-6-2 no 34007 Wadebridge GWR 2-6-2T no 5553GWR 2-8-0 no 3850LNER N7 0-6-2T no 69621S160 2-8-0 no 5197 Enjoy!
