Please check out our site for more details:www.wheatlandsalem.org A TRUE STORYWhen Lowell and Claudia Wertz were visiting with Wheatland Salem Church from Kigoma, Tanzania last January, they mentioned the alarming situation of many children in the town. Children come to the mission station for events and games but have no place to go afterwards. Lowell and Claudia had to use relay races with candy prizes to trick the kids into leaving! But when the relay races had ended, and the gates were closed and locked, Lowell gazed through the iron bars only to see children with nowhere to go looking back at him.So, Lowell and Claudia began to pray that somehow they could build a community center for the town. They envisioned it as a place that could be used for children, sewing classes for women, computer training, as well as training for pastors and church leaders. God answered their prayers. We asked, "How much would this cost?" "Well," Lowell said a bit apprehensively, "we already have a friend in Texas who will supply the corrugated aluminum and iron trusses for the roof. But the rest of the building will cost about $80,000."And that sounded to us like a birthday gift that would make Jesus smile - a community center for the children of Kigoma, Tanzania!Who's going to write a check for $80,000? By God's grace, we are.In this economy?Yes.Why?Because we want to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Redeemer!WHAT YOU CAN DO1. Calculate the amount you would have spent on Christmas gifts this year.2. Give 25-50% of that amount away in a special offering on December 14th at Wheatland Salem Church.3. Imagine the smiles of children who can spend more time playing, learning, and laughing - and less time behind a locked gate.
