We spoke with the competition committee chair about what she believes to be key elements of photography.STORY:Photo exhibits are dime-a-dozen and different in so many ways. So how does the Chinese International Photography Competition differ?Competition committee chairperson Yi Luoxun suggests that photography can help break language barriers.[Yi Luoxun, Competition Committee Chair]:For Asians, their language is very complicated and rich. Thus his thinking is also very rich. So if he wants to express a theme, it will be a lot to express. A good work should withstand any comment.She also says the theme and composition carry great significance.[Yi Luoxun, Competition Committee Chair]:Only then can this photo be a rational product, rather than something emotional, which depends on self-imagination...I felt the photos from Taiwan are very good. It highlights the human beings labor to support oneself. It is very calm, lets you feel how peaceful life is. It is a very peaceful environment. It makes you feel this way.Yi says due to the Internet blockage some quality Mainland photography wasnt able to be submitted.[Yi Luoxun, Competition Committee Chair]:There are a lot of photographers in the Mainland. But they get access to the competition information. Or they see the information, but they cant send their photos out, due to the Internet blockade. This is a pity. But next year we will have the competition again. We will host it annually. And from the technique, from the aesthetics, from the theme, the requirement may be even higher next year.About 120 photographs were selected for the finals. The judging committee's decision is based on four categories of evaluation, and each category is 10 points.NTD, New York.
