In Bolivia, archaeologists have just discovered the 'oldest' dinosaur footprints in the southern hemisphere. The treasure chest of dinosaur footprints date back to 140 million years ago.STORY: High up in the southern-central region of Bolivia, the Argentine exploration team found over 300 dinosaur tracks.Palaeontologist Pablo Gallina said the team's first day at the site was more than exciting.[Pablo Gallina, Palaeontologist]: "When I stooped down to look at the prints, the other palaeontologists were 50 meters ahead and saying 'There's more here!' And above that there were more prints covering 30 meters with 50 or 60 steps all in a line. It was the traces of prints from an adult dinosaur with its babies. It was more than we could believe." Local farmer Primo Rivera played a significant role in this discovery.[Primo Rivera, Local Farmer]: "I have been looking at these prints ever since I was little. And then I went to the city of Sucre and saw the dinosaur prints in the Cal Orcko exhibition and then I realized that these were prints too." The team says dozens of dinosaurs rare to the area made the prints. One of them appears to be an Ankylosaurus. Evidence of this animal has never been found before in the southern hemisphere.[Sebastian Apesteguia, Palaeontologist]: "The site has preserved traces that are 70 million years older than the ones previously found. They are about 140 million years old and are from dinosaurs living during the Jurassic or Cetacean Periods, which is interesting because these dinosaurs are completely different to the ones we have seen so far in Bolivia. It has also been difficult trying to figure out what type of dinosaurs they are." At the time these dinosaurs were alive, the Icla valley was part of a giant desert stretching from South America across to Africa.

Archaeologists announce the discovery of the remains of a pyramid built for the mother of Pharaoh Teti I. The pyramid is about 4,000 years ago.Egyptian archaeologists say they discovered the pyramid buried in the desert near the famous "Step Pyramid." The new discovery is thought to belong to the mother of a pharaoh who ruled more than 4,000 years ago.The pyramid, found about two months ago south of Cairo, probably houses the remains of Queen Sesheshet, mother of King Teti. Teti ruled from 2323 to 2291 BC. He was the founder of Egypt's Sixth Dynasty.The headless, five-metre high pyramid originally reached about 14 metres. Each of its sides is 22 metres long.The pyramid is the 118th found in Egypt. It was uncovered near the world's oldest pyramid - the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. The area is an important burial ground for rulers of ancient Egypt.Dr. Zahi Hawass, head of Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities, said, "I have been excavating with my Egyptian team in this site for the last twenty years, since 1988, and we rediscovered in this area two pyramids. One belong to a king of dynasty five and one belong to the main queen of King Teti, the first King of Dynasty six. But today we took about twenty meters of sand and we found under the sand this new pyramid."Archaeologists had previously discovered two pyramids nearby belonging to wives of the king.The Sixth Dynasty, saw a time of conflict in Egypt's royal family. There was an erosion of centralized power. The Sixth is considered the last dynasty of the Old Kingdom. After that Egypt descended into a period of famine and social upheaval.It is believed the newly discovered pyramid was originally covered in a casing of white limestone brought from quarries at nearby Tura.Artifacts including a wooden statue of the ancient Egyptian god Anubis and funerary figurines dating from a later period indicate that the cemetery was used through Roman times.
