Lounès Matoub (kabyle : Lwennas Meɛṭub), plus communément appelé Matoub Lounès, est un chanteur et poète kabyle, engagé dans la revendication identitaire berbère.Il est né à Taourirt Moussa Ouamar le 24 janvier 1956, en Kabylie, Algérie. Il meurt le 25 juin 1998, assassiné sur la route de At Douala. Officiellement, cet assassinat est attribué au GIA. Mais le pouvoir algérien est accusé, notamment par sa famille de l'avoir assassiné.Matoub acquiert un statut de martyr pour les régionalistes et militants kabyles, qui estiment que leurs droits sont bafoués.A l'age de neuf ans, il fabrique sa première guitare à partir d'un bidon d'huile de moteur vide, et compose ses premières chansons durant l'adolescence.Sa prise de conscience identitaire et culturel débute à la confrontation armée entre les Kabyles et les forces gouvernementales en 1963-1964.En 1968, le gouvernement algérien introduit une politique d'arabisation dans le système éducatif au détriment du berbère. Matoub réagit en n'allant pas à l'école. Finalement, il quitte le système éducatif et devient autodidacte. En 1978, il émigre en France à la recherche de travail.Arrivé en France, Matoub Lounès anime plusieurs soirées dans des cafés parisiens fréquentés par la communauté kabyle. C'est là qu'il se fait remarquer par le chanteur Idir qui l'aide à enregistrer son premier album, Ay Izem, qui remporte un vif succès.En 1980, le poète se produit pour la première fois à l'Olympia en plein évènements du printemps berbère. Il monte alors sur scène habillé d'une tenue militaire pour manifester son soutien aux manifestants kabyles.Depuis la sortie de son premier album Ay izem (Ô lion), Matoub Lounès célèbre les combattants de l'indépendance et fustige les dirigeants de l'Algérie à qui il reproche d'avoir usurpé le pouvoir et de brider la liberté d'expression. Chef de file du combat pour la reconnaissance de la langue berbère, il est grièvement blessé par un gendarme en octobre 1988. Il raconte sa longue convalescence dans l'album L'Ironie du sort (1989).[modifier]Les textes de Matoub Lounès sont revendicatifs et se consacrent à la défense de la culture berbère.Il s'oppose à la politique d'arabisation et d'islamisation de l'Algérie. Il parle le kabyle, le français, et comprend l'arabe sans l'employer. C'est un partisan de la laïcité et de la démocratie, et s'est fait le porte-parole des laissés-pour-compte et des femmes.Opposé à l'islamisme et au terrorisme islamiste, il condamne l'assassinat d'intellectuels. Il fut enlevé le 25 septembre 1994 par le GIA (Groupe Islamique Armée), puis libéré au terme d'une mobilisation de l'opinion publique de la communauté kabyle. La même année, il publie un ouvrage autobiographique, Rebelle, et reçoit le Prix de la mémoire des mains de Danielle Mitterrand.En 1996, il participe à la marche des rameaux en Italie pour l'abolition de la peine de mort alors qu'en mars 1995, le S.C.I.J.(Canada) lui remet Le Prix de la Liberté d'expression.En 1998, il sort les albums Tabratt i lḥukem et Ilḥeq-d zzher. Ces derniers sont de genre chaâbi. Il y dénonce la lâcheté et la stupidité du pouvoir algérien. Le morceau Tabratt i lḥukem de l'album éponyme, est construite en « kacide » (enchaînement de musiques différentes). Le dernier morceau est une parodie de Kassaman, l'hymne national algérien. Ce dernier lui coûta la vie. [réf. nécessaire]Le 25 juin 1998, il est assassiné sur la route menant de Tizi Ouzou à At Douala en Kabylie à quelques kilomètres de son village natal (Taourirt Moussa). Les conditions de ce meurtre n'ont jamais été élucidées. Les funérailles du chanteur drainèrent des centaines de milliers de personnes, tandis que toute la région connut plusieurs semaines d'émeutes.Une fondation portant le nom du chanteur a été créée par ses proches pour perpétuer sa mémoire, faire la lumière sur l'assassinat et promouvoir les valeurs d'humanisme défendues pendant la vie de Matoub Lounès .Cinq rues portant le nom de Matoub Lounès ont été inaugurées en France à sa mémoire : * A Paris * A Aubervilliers * Dans la commune de Saint-Martin-d'Hères près de Grenoble. * À Vaulx-en-Velin près de Lyon le 22 novembre 2003. * Dans la commune de Pierrefitte (Seine Saint Denis)Matoub Lounès est de tous les artistes kabyles, le plus connu en Kabylie comme dans le monde entier en raison de son engagement.Sa musique s'appuie sur l'usage d'instruments traditionnels comme le mandole et reprend les thèmes du folklore kabyle.En 2001 le Groupe corse Canta U Populu Corsu dans leur album Rinvivisce rend hommage à sa lutte et ses souffrances.L'oeuvre de Lounès Matoub se compose de 28 albums (ou 34 volumes).Matoub Lounès qu'Allah aie son âme
