Chapter 9-Over-thinking ThingsWhen I got back to the room, Anna was sitting on her bed watching TV. When she saw me, she turned down the volume."Hey," she said. "Where've you been?""Starbucks," I said plainly. "With Nick.""Nick?" she asked."Yeah," I said."Well, this is new," she said. "Do you like him?""No!" I exclaimed. "Where would you get an idea like that?""Gosh, don't blow up on me," she said. "I was just wondering. Why were you there with him then?""I don't know," I sighed. "He just came over and asked if I wanted to go. What was I supposed to say? It's not like I had anything better to do.""Did you have a good time?" she asked."Heck no," I said. "It was awful. He barely said a word. It was like he was nervous or something.""That's weird," she said. "He usually runs his mouth to you all through lunch.""I know," I said. "I don't know what came over him.""Maybe he likes you," she said.I lowered my eyebrows. "What makes you think that?""Well, he came over here and asked you to spend time with him, and then he's nervous around you. Those are pretty tell tale signs," she said."But he's around me here and he's never nervous," I said."But it's never been just the two of you," she said.I could see her point, but I didn't want Nick to like me. He wasn't supposed to. Kevin was supposed to."I don't want him to like me," I flat out told her.Anna shrugged. "Well, sometimes, there's nothing you can do," she said.I sighed and lay down on my bed. I replayed what had just happened with Nick over in my head. Was it really a date? Did he like me? Why did he just come over? Why didn't he call first? Was he too afraid? Did he even have my number?I made a note to myself to give Nick my cell phone number, but then I over thought that idea.If I gave him my number, would he think I'm interested? I don't want to give him the wrong impression, I just rather he call first before he comes barging in here out of the blue again.I didn't know what to think of him. He was weird, in a strangely cute way. I didn't want to like him for the most part, but in some ways I did. He's nice, he likes music, and he's a drummer. But then the picture of Kevin came into my mind, and I completely dismissed the idea of ever liking Nick.I could never like him better than Kevin.
