Painting is another branch of art in which His Majesty has shown interest in since a very young age. He learned to draw and paint by himself. He began to paint seriously around the year 2502 after ascending to the throne. The paintings were done during his spare time from royal duties and they are mostly of Her Majesty the Queen and the royal children. During the bicentennial celebration the Fine Arts department was given royal permission to hold an exhibition of His Majestys paintings at the National Museum. Although His Majesty was occupied with royal duties and devoted most of his time to solving the problems that his subjects were facing, he was still able to provide forty-seven paintings for exhibition.

Deriving from His Majestys compassion and concern for his subjects he ingeniously invented a water purifying machine adapted from Luk a creation of the combined village intellect of Thailands traditional past. This device was commissioned for production jointly by the Chai Patana Foundation under His Majestys patronage and the Department of Irrigation. It has become widely known as the Chai Patana Water Wheel, a locally produced low-cost machine which lessens the financial burden of the government in water treatment.This gift to the people from His Majesty the Kings own ingenuity became the pride of the nation as it was awarded five prizes as the worlds outstanding invention at the 47th International Invention Exhibition held in Belgium.This fame of His Majestys invention is not only known in the Kingdom of Thailand but it is also known throughout the world. Because of the rapid environmental changes causes wide range water pollution problems with a tendency to become more severe. Animals in certain areas die in large quantities and the water is not useable or drinkable. The Chai Patana Water Wheel plays an important role in purifying these water ways so that it once again provides a safe habitat for animals and provides potable water for the areas human population.
