Jan Willem Findlater and Jelte Steur designed a music player called Bloom. This music player's specialty lies in the mediation between the music, the user and the environment. Our persona get stressed through too much contact with other people and too little time for themselves. Bloom makes it possible for the users to isolate themselves from the environment. Through sitting under Bloom, it creates a personal space with the speakers. Both visually and through the sound of the music player, it isolates the user from the rest of the room. People in the environment can also notice that the music player is in the closed state, so the user does not want to be disturbed. The volume is on a personal level, and the music also adapts: There is a relaxing fade between the songs with a little silence in between. When the music player is in the open position, the music is shared with the whole room. It allows a higher volume and there is hardly any fading between the songs. We envisage Bloom to be used as part of a room, in a living room, bedroom or possibly outside on a private terrace.
