A story about our beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Winnie.R.I.P. WinnieSong: 'All You Need Is Love' by The BeatlesPhotography by Rory O'Brien-----She was raised in a puppy mill and supplied pet stores with "rare" white schnauzers. When the mill was busted for poor conditions she was given to a rescue organization in TX. Then given to a truck driver who brought her to our rescue in Minnesota. She came to us not spayed, not vaccinated, in need of a dental, and had to mammary masses we were told were fatty tumors. The Rescue was not very reputable to not take care of these things before giving her to just anyone. She was given to a truck driver as a companion, he realized she needed major rehabilitation and gave her to us.Winnie took baby steps, she learned the feel of the grass, to hear the rustling of the leaves, and how to walk up the stairs. She has come a long way from when she first got to our house 4 years ago. Now she has attended many social events including the State Fair and did a few tricks for the crowd. Winnie loves going to dog events and including the Pet Expo. She is our ambassador for puppy mills, educating families on where to find a dog, and to help stop Puppy Millers from breeding ones like her. Winnie was never normal, she was skittish and afraid at times, though she had a forever home for each year she was in the Puppy Mill. She loved going on walks, going to the North Shore, and to work with her Mom every day. All the staff knew Winnie. We never expected much & she surpassed our dreams of how far she came.Puppy Mill dogs are rarely socialized and endure a life of misery, sickness, and isolation. They are treated like livestock and miss the critical stages of socialization. She made lots of friends and was never mean to anyone. I think she knew they were displaced like she was at one time. She knew over 80 schnauzers. She has taught me several things about puppy mill dogs and how the treatment she got affected her life. My voice is softer and I am more patient. I can appreciate a tail wag, her gentle licking, and her excitement when we go for a car ride. What most take for granted.Sadly Winnie got very sick. She wouldnt eat and one of the masses got very hard. When they did surgery they found out she had two hernias. So 4 years ago we had a biopsy done on two hernias that was encased in fat, not fatty tumors. Her intestine also had to be repaired because it lost blood supply. Winnie never recovered from this operation. She didnt have the strength to recover as she was traumatized more so than a normal dog.R.I.P WINNIE, we will miss you and your life was way too short! We love you so much sweet angel!Say a prayer for those in the Puppy Mills like Winnie was! It is NOT a dogs life as we typically believe. Do not think you are saving a dog by purchasing puppy's from pet stores and in fact you are causing ones like Winnie to breed again and restock the cagesIf no one buys these puppies; the mills will have no reason to breed! She was breeding puppies with a double hernia that was never repaired. It went undiagnosed for 4 years. This is also congenital it was passed on to all her pups. Also, Please be aware that not all rescues are reputable. Thank you for watching. Website: MSPMSR.org The End
