So we are delighted to report that they are going to jail.With their pal Ralph Blore, they set up companies which promised a good wage from work you could do at home.Those who replied to their ads, often the elderly and disabled, were told to pay a fee and buy materials to make a range of products.But the "work" was no more than worthless tasks and victims' efforts were rejected without pay.Police found work dumped in a skip behind the firm's offices, in Wheaton Aston, Staffs. They also found a notebook headed: "Scam of the Year."Smith and Bradley simply banked the cash and lived the high life. These are some of their firms, and their lies:SBS Designs Ltd, named after Shaun Bernard Smith, took a #60 registration fee promising weekly earnings of up to #300 by addressing envelopes or making mobile phone cases.Westbourne Products Ltd charged #55-#60 to get work painting or sewing, with earnings of up to #290 a week.Park-A-Car: Took deposits of #65 from workers sent parts to make a car immobiliser, with weekly earnings of #350.The Craft Factory took #40 from "staff" who were sent wooden pegs, pots of glue and varnish, with instructions to make small ornaments.In January 1997 we told how Stephen Lougheed, of Coventry, gave up his job as a bus driver to look after his elderly mother and joined the Park-A-Car scheme.But, like many others, his hard work was rejected. "We were taken for a ride - I wasted nearly #200," he told us. When we tackled Smith he said he had "morals like anyone else".More than four years later a jury at Stafford Crown Court has disagreed. After a nine-week trial they found Smith, 36, and Bradley, 35, guilty of five fraud charges and former soldier Blore, 44, guilty of two.Three others - Dwayne Dawson, Janine Blore and Bradley's sister Sarah Tunnicliffe - were cleared of similar charges. The case came to court after a massive probe led by Det Sgt Terry Smith and Det Con Dave Cutler of Staffordshire CID.On hearing the verdicts DC Cutler told us: "These men didn't give a monkey's about anyone except themselves."I'm delighted the jury saw straight through them."You brought it to light and we took it up. It was no more than an organised criminal conspiracy to defraud people of their money."Now investigators are trying to trace the millions - bank accounts have been frozen and, so far, #960,000 has been traced.The way these liars swaggered into court was no surprise to us. Even while on bail awaiting trial Smith and Bradley were still trying to rip-off the public. In July we found them running a holiday con in Wolverhampton.So we were pleased to hear Recorder Alan Pardoe QC warn them they face "substantial" prison sentences.All three men have been bailed, their passports confiscated, to return to Stafford for sentencing next month.They are a menace and won't stop until they are behind bars - that's why we'll be in court to see them being sent down.
